On marriage, sex, motherhood, family, food, airports and the impossible work of holding a house.

Hong Kong to Australia and back.
Hong Kong to Europe.
Three Eurasian daughters.
Two Portuguese water dogs.
One Gweilo husband.
Everything else happened in between.

Lai Yin

I was born in Hong Kong.

I grew up in Canberra and attended University in Melbourne before returning home. I lead in retail, sales, and private banking.

Then I met a Gweilo and made him mine.

These books follow the life that unfolded afterwards.

Hong Kong.
Australia.
Portugal.
Germany.
France.

Food appears often.

So do daughters,
dogs,
airports,
start-ups,
markets,
restaurants,
hotels,
marriage,
sex,
aging,
and the work of holding a house.

Some essays begin with a city.
Most end somewhere else.

Some of my essays make me laugh.
Some make me proud.
Some quietly devastate me still.

All of them are personal.

Alongside these books,
I publish research on Power 權力, Gravity 重力, and Placement 放置 through SSRN.

My essays are first published at SHEHOLDS 她拿著 and collected here in book form.

I live in Europe with my husband,
our daughters,
and our dogs.

Notes from Lai Yin

Most weeks I publish a new essay.

Sometimes it is about food.
Sometimes it is about daughters.
Sometimes it is about marriage, travel, sex, grief, aging, dogs, airports, or finding home in a new country.

Subscribers receive new essays, book updates, and occasional research notes from my work on Somatic Power, Gravity 重力 and Placement 放置.
